Birth In A Day is an accelerated childbirth preparation class. It is geared toward busy families. Birth In A Day is an information-intensive class that focuses on basic childbirth education. Topics covered include: • Late Pregnancy Changes for Delivery • Identifying Labor/When To Leave Home • Timing Contractions • How Labor Progresses • Epidurals and other Pain Medications • Lamaze Breathing Techniques • Birth and Recovery • Labor Induction • Comfort Measures for Mom • Cesarean Delivery: Rationale and Routines • How To Partner the Laboring Mom • Postpartum Recovery Classes are offered monthly on Saturday, 9 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. In order to ensure that participant’s questions and learning needs are adequately addressed. It also keeps class sizes comfortable.

Many people take labor preparation classes, but until now, resources for cesarean birth education have been limited. Providence is pleased to offer our newest course, Cesarean Prep; allowing you the option of evidenced-based prenatal education for your birth and recovery process. Like all of our prenatal classes, this course was created with input from physicians and families. The class is held in a comfortable, relaxed setting so you and your partner have the freedom to ask plenty of questions and get a better understanding of this birth style.

This prenatal breastfeeding class will help you prepare before and after delivery. Breastfeeding difficulties are related to latch and positioning; therefore, over half of the class is devoted to the basics. Heavy emphasis is placed on how to know feedings are going well, and if not, how to get help. In addition, common hospital routines and newborn behaviors are discussed. We will also check out at a variety of different pumps and what they are best used for. Dads are encouraged to attend as well, since they are a great source of support for mom.

Safe Sitter is a program for children 11 to 13 years of age who are interested in becoming smart babysitters. This two-day class (August 14 & 15) teaches safe and nurturing childcare techniques, behavior management skills, and appropriate responses to medical emergencies, including CPR and choking rescue for children and infants. The Safe Sitter program costs $50 to attend, and is $40 for children of Providence employees.
